Repetto Farms Project

We worked with flower, herb and berry farmer Dave Repetto over 4 years to improve irrigation efficiency and water storage at his San Gregorio farm. The result was better water security for Dave and protected streamflows in San Gregorio Creek for the environment and wildlife.

During Phase I we helped Dave upgrade his irrigation system, cutting down his water demand and decreasing the amount of water he pumps from the creek. It was a win for the farmer and a win for the fish! Dave has been very happy with the new system. Some of the upgrades were to improve water pressure distribution through his irrigation lines, and to replace sprinkler heads so that the fields were more evenly and accurately watered.

The second phase of the project expanded his agricultural pond to a 19 acre foot capacity. This new pond provides the farmer with water security for times when the creek is too low to pump. It can also serve as a backup during drought periods. Dave fills his new pond in the winter and spring, when rain is falling and creeks are running high. During the summer, when creek flow is at its lowest, Dave irrigates from the pond. Agricultural ponds help farmers by building water security, and help the environment by keeping more water in the creek during the summer.
