Kings Mountain Strategic Fuel Reduction Project
Description
The San Mateo Resource Conservation District (RCD) and Fire Safe San Mateo County are leading a project aimed at reducing wildfire risk and improving evacuation and emergency access in the Kings Mountain area.
The project will treat approximately 120 acres near Kings Mountain Elementary School and along Swett Road, Star Hill Road, Tunitas Creek Road, and Skyline Boulevard (Highway 35). Work includes thinning vegetation, removing hazardous trees, managing invasive plants, and maintaining earlier roadside fuel reduction treatments along Highway 35.
Highway 35 work: September 16–30, 2026
Work days: Monday through Friday
Traffic control: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Fire Safe San Mateo County is conducting roadside maintenance with Caltrans, Woodside Fire Protection District, and the RCD. Crews are removing invasive broom and dead, diseased, or fallen tree debris from the roadside right of way.
Please use caution while workers and equipment move on and off the road.
